Braised onions are a simple but essential addition in Polish home cooking - soft, aromatic, and slightly sweet, slowly cooked in butter or oil until they develop a deeper flavour and a light golden colour. They work perfectly with potatoes, kopytka, Silesian dumplings, pierogi, grains, cutlets, sausages, goulash, and dishes with sauce, adding warmth, aroma, and that familiar homemade character.
In our version, they are prepared without rushing and without unnecessary extras - just enough to make the onions soft, well seasoned, and gently buttery. It’s a small part of the meal, but it makes a real difference on the plate by bringing together simplicity and the true taste of traditional cooking.
Ingredients: onion, butter or oil, salt, pepper, optionally marjoram or light seasoning
